In
1999, IHSD became a subcontractor for the San Mateo County Office
of Education’s State Preschool Program, a part-day comprehensive
child development program for preschool-aged children. IHSD combined
State Preschool and Head Start Services to provide full-day, full-year
care for low-income working families. Currently, IHSD operates
full-day State Preschool programs at the following sites: San
Mateo Head Start Site, Moonridge Child Development Center, Fair
Oaks Head Start Site, East Palo Alto Head Start Site and Serramonte
Head Start Site.
First Step for Families Child Development Center
In August 2004, IHSD
opened a new child development center at Shelter Network of San
Mateo County’s First Step for Families Program. The child development
center provides child development services for both preschool
and toddler age children, whose families are overcoming crises
and seeking permanent housing. At this time the First Step for
Families Program is only open to children who are part of Shelter
Network’s program.
