Other Infant Programs

Cal-Safe

In addition to the Early Head Start Program, which serves infants and toddlers, IHSD also manages a unique infant program in conjunction with the South San Francisco Unified School District’s School Age Mother Program. Funded through Cal-SAFE (California’s School Age Family Education Program), the Baden Infant Center in South San Francisco provides services to infants of high school age mothers.

The intent of the program is to allow young mothers to continue their education, while also learning parenting skills that will provide them with a strong base from which to raise their children. During the time that mothers are in school, the children are cared for by Early Head Start staff. During breaks, opportunities are scheduled for developing the parenting skills of SAMP Students by using the on-site Infant Center to conduct observations, socializations, and/or educational workshops.

Parent support groups and activities that promote family self-sufficiency and completion of a high school education are provided for the parents of the infants in the program.
