Health Services
IHSD’s commitment to wellness embraces a comprehensive vision of
health for children, families, and staff. Health Services help ensure that
through collaboration among families, staff, and health professionals, all
child health and developmental concerns are identified and children and
families are linked to an ongoing source of care to meet their basic health
needs. Along with this, the Health Services area of IHSD also provides
education to families and staff on various topics of concern. Health
services achieve these things through the following:
- Obtaining information from
health professionals determining whether a child is up to date on
appropriate preventative and primary health care which includes
medical, dental, and mental health.
- Assisting parents with
referrals made by health professionals.
- Performing some health
screenings when needed.
- Putting parents in contact
with resources in the community.
- Making sure that all
children in the program are insured.
- Providing consultations
with a nutritionist when necessary.
- Training parents on various
health related topics.
- Bringing speakers to parent
meetings.
- Networking in the other
community agencies to ensure that Head Start families will be able to
access services.
- Provide trainings to staff
in regards to health concerns in a child care setting.
