Position:                ASSISTANT TEACHERS – HEAD START PROGRAM (12 Month)

Location:               Moonridge-Part Time (Half Moon Bay)

Salary:                    Depending on Experience

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

Duties of the position will include, but are not limited to, the following:

1.         Assist with planning and implementing curriculum activities.

2.         Assist with planning and setting up indoor and outdoor environment.

3.         Supervise and team-teach a group of 15-17 children.

4.         Assist with classroom record keeping.

5.         Assist teachers in conducting home visits for each child enrolled in the Head Start             program.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.         High School graduate or equivalent.

2.         Previous work experience in a licensed childcare center or comparable group

            child care program.

3.         Knowledge of Early Childhood Education practices and techniques.

4.         12 Units in Early Childhood Education. Proof of completion of core ECE courses     (ECE 201 Child Development, ECE 210 Early Childhood Education Principles, ECE 211           Early Childhood Education Curriculum, ECE 212 Child Family and Community)

  1. Teach a group of children ages 3-5
  2. Plan, develop and carry out classroom goals and objectives
  3. Develop Individualized Learning plan (ILP) for each child
  4. Maintain accurate records on children’s developmental progress
  5. Make two (2) home visits per year for each child to assess needs and keep parents informed about child’s progress
  6. Conduct developmental screenings and observations

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. AA or BA in Early Childhood Education
  2. A minimum of 1 year actual classroom teaching experience
  3. Proof of completion of  core ECE courses (ECE201 Child Development, ECE210 Early Childhood Education Principles, ECE211 Early Childhood Education Curriculum, ECE212 Child, Family and Community)
  4. Current California Child Development Teacher Permit
  5. Current Department of Justice/FBI Child Abuse Index Clearance
  6. Recent tubercular clearance (within past six (6) months)

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

1.       Recruit families for participation in the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs through community outreach activities and collaboration with community-based organizations.

2.       Work with families from the point of application and intake to the program and throughout their enrollment.

3.       Work closely with Health Services Coordinator to monitor health requirements, provide necessary referrals, and complete follow-up.

4.       Conduct an assessment of the family’s needs and develop family goals in partnership with family.

5.       Provide resources and referrals to families whose children are participating in the program.

6.       Collaborate and coordinate with teaching staff, management and support staff, to ensure the delivery of high quality services to children and families.

7.       Work in partnership with teaching staff to promote parent involvement in various activities, i.e. classroom activities, parent center committee meetings, literacy programs and parent trainings.

8.       Maintain a relationship with school districts and community agencies to provide a continuum of services to children and families, facilitate referrals, and advocate for child/family needs.

9.       Conduct home visits with teaching staff to gather necessary information about the child(ren) and their family.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.       AA or BA degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Education, Child Development or related field preferred.

2.       Minimum one (1) year of work experience in aforementioned fields.

3.       Minimum one (1) year experience providing services to low-income families.

4.       Knowledge of the principles and practices of case management and family development.

5.       Knowledge of local community resources.

6.       Ability to handle multiple duties, maintain accurate records and documentation, prioritize tasks, and complete work assignments in a timely manner.

7.       Valid California driver’s license, current automobile insurance and vehicle.

8.       Bilingual Spanish required.

Position:                HOME-BASED SPECIALIST for Head Start (2 Positions)

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists families in identifying strengths, developing goals, and assessing available resources through a family assessment process.
  • Encourages and promotes the family’s achievement of self-sufficiency.
  • Provides scheduled weekly home visits with pregnant women and/or families with infants/toddlers on a one-to-one basis (may include evenings/weekends). Home visits promote parent involvement through the planning and implementation of child development activities in the family’s home environment.
  • Provides ongoing assessment of infants/toddlers in the Early Head Start Program using appropriate assessment tools.
  • Plans and facilitates parent/child socialization activities.
  • Assists with the coordination and planning of parent activities and parent education programs.
  • Conducts recruitment and intake activities of Early Head Start eligible children and their families to maintain full enrollment and a waiting list.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate or Bachelor degree in Social Work, Child Development, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Minimum one (1) year work experience with and knowledge of principles of family dynamics, early intervention and infant development.
  • Minimum one (1) year work experience with and knowledge of issues specific to low-income populations.
  • Knowledge of community agency resources for staff and parents.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and utilize computer to prepare necessary reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a cooperative and professional working relationship with staff, parents and other public agency personnel.
  • Proficiency in Spanish required.
  • Valid California driver’s license and vehicle.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Agency Strategic Plan Development/Implementation

  1. Provides leadership to the Board, Staff, volunteers, and other stakeholders in implementing the vision and mission of the organization, working with the Board in a strategic planning process.
  2. Leads the organization through long and short term evaluation and planning cycles.

 

Board Relations

  1. Attends Board Meetings.
  2. Keeps Board informed about agency progress and growth.
  3. Participates in Board Committee activities.
  4. Prepares agenda for Board meetings.
  5. Prepares reports for Board meetings.
  6. Provides orientation to new Board members.
  7. Assists with the recruitment of new Board members.

 

Agency Fiscal Management

  1. Supervises the design and implementation of internal and external control and reporting systems.
  2. Works closely with staff and Board members to ensure the financial health of the organization by providing sound business models, budgeting and financial management.
  3. Analyzes financial information and trends and provides recommendations for changes as necessary and appropriate.
  4. Conducts financial negotiations with funding sources, contractors and vendors.

 

Program Monitoring

1.        Develops an agency-wide program monitoring plan.

2.        Meets with senior management staff on a monthly basis to evaluate program effectiveness and progress.

3.        Serves as a team leader on the program self-assessment plan.

4.        Ensures the organization meets and exceeds all regulations and reporting requirements from government entities and other stakeholders.

 

Organizational Development

  1. Reviews and revises agency’s internal systems.
  2. Works with Board to make needed changes to internal systems.
  3. Identifies new program opportunities for the agency.
  4. Reviews all service progress reports and works with the Associate Director to develop or improve current systems to enhance program quality.
  5. Allocates agency resources to ensure program quality.

 

Policy/ Procedure Development/Management

  1. Recommends program policies to the Board.
  2. Works with the Board of Directors to develop and implement Personnel Policies and Procedures.

 

Community/External Relations

  1. Serves as the agency’s representative to community, state, regional and national associations and conducts a positive public information program.
  2. Establishes informal and formal partnerships with local community agencies.

 

Executive Staff Supervision/Development

  1. Provides direction, guidance, orientation, training and support to the Associate Director, Fiscal Manager and Human Resources Manager.
  2. Conducts formal staff evaluations according to the agency’s personnel policies and procedures.
  3. Works with the Senior Management staff in the development and provision of training to address employee performance, skills and knowledge.
  4. Ensures equitable administration of wage and salary policies and structures and employee benefit plans.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:     

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university-Master’s degree highly desirable – with a major in any of the following disciplines or a closely related field:
    1. Education Administration
    2. Public Management/Administration
    3. Child Development or Early Childhood Education
  2. Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive, more responsible, management experience;
  3. Direct experience in managing government funded programs;
  4. Involvement in community, state, regional and national organizations;
  5. Grant writing experience;
  6. Experience with budgets and reporting requirements;
  7. Experience working with underprivileged families and communities.

 

Skills/Knowledge:

  1. Ability to understand and apply rules and regulations as dictated by the Federal funded program – Head Start; State funded programs – State Preschool, Cal-SAFE and the local Community Care Licensing.
  2. Ability to plan, organize, allocate and control substantial resources.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral presentation.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
